  1. Bali is not one island, it's three trips — Seminyak (beach clubs), Ubud (rice & yoga), Nusa Penida (cliffs).
  2. Hire a private driver — Rs 2,500/day is normal and much cheaper than ride-apps for sightseeing.
  3. Sundays at Uluwatu Kecak — get there at 5pm sharp; the dance starts at sunset.
  4. Mount Batur sunrise is not for the unfit. The climb is 2 hours, mostly in the dark.
  5. Withdraw IDR at a "PT" branded ATM — others swallow cards.
  6. Don't book the cheapest villa on the photos — check road access on Google Street View.
  7. Tegallalang free entry — pay only if you go down to the swings.
  8. Avoid Kuta unless you specifically want clubbing.
  9. Try a Balinese massage — 90 minutes for Rs 1,200, world-class.
  10. Always carry small notes; many warungs do not take cards.
